So for over a month now my son has been trying to drop his nap. Hes 2 years old 9 months. First week he basically didn't nap at all and was going to bed at 7ish. The next week he'd started napping again! Then going to bed at 9/10pm. Then we were having just a couple of naps a week .
This week he seems to have cut the nap completely again but he just can't seem to manage it.
I still try and get him to sleep between 12-1pm but he just fights it so I think then he can't be that tired and then we move on with our day.
It gets to 3pm and he's exhausted and his behaviour has become very difficult. He's extremely easy and happy child when he's not tired.
We manage to make it till bed time and he's out like a light at 6.30pm. Then he's awake screaming every single hour until I just end up coming to bed myself and getting him in with me about 10pm. He wakes up really unsettled and hysterical.
My thinking is that he's not ready to stop napping but then if he naps at 3pm he's going to go to bed so late and be over tired?

What to dooo???
Any advice or does anyone know how long this stage usually lasts ? Due baby 2 in a few months.
Just to add without the nap he sleeps 630-630/7ish so is getting a long sleep but seems irritable and tired still.
When he was napping he was getting 1-2 hours nap time and around 10 hours at night.

We went through this stage with dc1 earlier than you, around 18 months. But anyway for us, we used a weekly routine rather than a daily one. So she napped on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but then the other days were non nap days. We did this for quite a while, like 6 months, and it got the right balance for her.

Wow that's young!!
That makes sense but I can't always get him to sleep at all that's the issue. Until it's past 2/3pm and then it seems too late to nap. Even on a car journey he will be awake,

Yeah it was young, my dd has always been a terrible sleeper! But napping twice a week worked really well for a while.
