15 month old resisting sleep

My 15 month old is rocked / held to sleep. I'm fine with this as he sleeps well and don't want to sleep train. My issue is he is resisting sleep every nap/bedtime, he fights to get off and has recently learned that throwing his dummy means going back downstairs to reset sleep routine. If I put him in cot he plays for 15 mins then cries his heart out so not an option. How do I even fix this!?

Is he having too many naps/too much day sleep so is just not tired enough, maybe?

My 14 month old started taking ages to go to sleep around 12 months so we dropped to 1 nap a day and he tends to go off to sleep more easily than not now.

He dropped to 1 nap around a month or so ago and for a while it was easier but it started up again 👎

Perhaps he is going to bed too early. He might be happier if you kept him downstairs with you until he falls asleep naturally.

Ahh ok. How about the timing of it? Is it too early and he’s just not tired enough at the time he’s going down? Maybe try pushing it later in the day and capping it/waking him up after 1 1/2-2 hours?

At 17 months we had to push the nap later and shorten it, maybe yours got to this point at a younger age.
