Dummy wakes!

SEND HELP!

My 4 month old son has begun waking up almost every hour throughout the night for me to put his dummy in for him! He does not go to sleep with it in his mouth but is still waking for it in the night. How can I break this habit? (Obviously I know I could just not give it to him but he won’t resettle any other way currently)

When we wakes, take his hand and guide him to find the dummy and help him put it back into his mouth himself. And repeat! He'll soon get the hang of finding it again himself.
Be prepared OP for the 'oh he shouldn't have a dummy, he should be self soothing' etc etc from some holier than thou MNs. Just ignore them!!

Also, for when he gets the hang of finding it himself, I have a clever friend who saved her sleep by placing about 8 dummies in a circle around baby at night

It’s just a wake, not a dummy wake. He’s waking because he either wants comfort or milk.

I’m a huge fan of dummies usually but in this case I’d get rid. If he doesn’t go to sleep with it then he clearly can sleep without it, and the point is supposed to be that it helps with sleep yet you’ve got hourly wakes which is about as bad as it gets. He’s not going to be able to replace it himself until minimum 6, probably more like 7 months old, so pointless trying to teach him this young and whilst I rode out DS’s nightly 3am replace, hourly wakes is not something I’d be prepared to put up for another 3 months!
