Baby waking frequently in the night

Baby waking very frequently in the night.
Hes 5 months old and exclusively breastfed. His sleep has never been amazing but at one point he had a week of waking up once or twice a night when around 3 months since then it’s been on a down hill spiral.
He goes to bed around 7
wakes up at 8,10,11,12 sometimes has a chunk till 3 or 4 then wakes every hour till 6/7 some of the time he does two hours and not one hour. Every night is different and feels like I’m going into the trenches.
Sometimes when he has the long chunk I struggle to fall back asleep my sleep is so messed up.
He settles fine in his bed for naps and bed time, and can get put down awake and fall asleep.
in the day he also feeds quite frequently and has started solids as I thought it might help and he was showing all the signs of wanting to eat and being ready.
He has a nap after 2/3 hours of being awake.
min his awake time he feeds, plays, eats and has lots tummy time. I usually feed him and put him to bed but not feed to sleep. Sometime I wear him in the sling if he’s over tired and fussy.
In the night feeds are quick maybe 5 minutes and he sometimes falls asleep but sometimes is awake. I’ve tried leaving him to cry for ten minutes, depending on the cry even twenty and it didn’t stop.
i love feeding him myself but can’t go on this sleep deprived so considering formula if it means getting some sleep! Has anyone had any experience of this ?
He won’t take a bottle either, I’ve tried basically everything apart from starving him to the point he has to take it ….
Thanks!

Is he teething?

Have you tried getting him into a routine?

It's so hard isn't it, but as the saying goes, 'this too shall pass'.

It will get better, hang in there x

I'm afraid this is quite normal at 5 months, my son did it at the same age and still isn't brilliant at a year old but he got better at ten months when we stopped rocking him to sleep and stopped feeding him twice in the might, it was a habit feed. He's gone back to sometimes needing a feed at night and his sleeps gone awful again after jabs and molar teething, bit I remember the 5 month hell of hourly wake ups, I feel for you!

I'm so envious your little one can be put down awake and falls asleep, my son has never done this! So alot of the techniques to get them to self soothe you're already doing, I think its just the developmental he'll of 5 months that causes it, they learn to roll and try to crawl and it disrupts their sleep. Hope he settles faster than my tyrant did, sounds like he will if he self soothes to sleep usually.
