constant waking

My husband and I finally agreed to do the whole sleep training thing and it took our 7 month old a week of crying herself to sleep and us taking turns to go in and check on her to finally go down without a fuss. Great! Now after 2 weeks of this she has now started waking up about 20 mins after she has gone to sleep and crying. I go in to put her dummy back in and she goes ' back to sleep' for another 15 min or so and then wakes crying again and this goes on for ages? I have no idea what this is about and it is stressing me out because my husband says we need to leave her now to put herself abck to sleep but I think there must be something going on thats waking her and that she must be in pain or sore ears from teething or anything to justify her waking up and crying??? I cant bear to go through this controlled crying again. Please help!!!

The natural patterns of sleep are like a wave - down into a deep sleep then up into a light sleep and then down into a deep sleep again - all night.

When she heads up into a period of light sleep and finds the dummy has fallen out she prob jerks awake with a fright rather than gently descends into a deep sleep again.

Someone on here said it's like us going to sleep with a pillow but then half waking up to find it has gone - confusion; heart pounding etc etc.

Not sure about the solution but have you tried settling her without the dummy? Later on she'll be able to grab her dummy herself and pop it in but until then she needs a helping hand?

My 3 yr old can wake 4 or 5 times a nite and still wake at 5.30am! any help out there coz im at my wits end as I work with 4 and 5 yr olds and I need my sleep!

Does your 3yr old have a daytime nap? I have been a nanny for 8 years and found that alot of parents try and keep their lo from sleping during the day hoping they will sleep better at night ut infact it has the opposite effect. If they sleep well in the day for just an hour or so, they will better sleepers at night and not get overtired. My lo sleeps better at nigth if she has had a good daytime nap.
