10 Month old’s naps have gone off the boil

My son is ten months and has always been a decent sleeper. He has consistently done two 90 minute naps since he dropped his first nap, and his night sleep has been ok- we had some early struggles with night wakings but those went away when he dropped his morning nap, and the most recent issue really has just been waking too early- 4:30/5.

The last week or so, however, he’s been a nightmare. Very short naps (20-30 mins) or flat out refusing. Screaming his head off if I try and settle him or leave him. His night sleep has got better- currently doing 12 hours and waking at 6- but in the day he’s terrible. Yesterday he only managed 30 minutes total sleep, in three broken chunks of ten minutes.

The biggest issue seems to be that he doesn’t want to be put down, as he will wake and scream if you try. He also will sometimes sleep longer if you lie with him in bed- I managed 2 hours out of him on Friday, but I was holding him the entire time.

Is this the ten month sleep regression? And ideas what to do? I should also add he cut his first tooth yesterday, so I thought it could have been that, but he’s woken up from his nap after 19 minutes today so it’s not made a difference.

Any help or advice appreciated!
