Baby sleep

Hello,
This Is my second baby (just turned 5 months old. Still young I know) but his sleep is just awful and I am absolutely knackered.
Bedtime routine is actually really good and then he falls asleep generally ok and most of the time when I put him in his next to me is aware/awake and still falls asleep but then about half hour later he’ll wake really crying 3 or 4 times until he’s properly asleep for a bit.
Then it usually starts at midnight and the wake ups can be so frequent from then until about 6 when he is up for the day. I breastfeed in the night so I worry about the whole ‘feeding to sleep’ but to be honest I don’t know what else to do! He isn’t overly fussed by a dummy, he will kind of stroke a comforter but there no real ‘comfort’ for him yet (apart from me)
He doesn’t settle very well with his dad, in my husbands defence he does try for me and he is trying a lot when he’s not at work to do naps etc so he gets better with him.
Any tips to help him not be so distressed in the evening and not wake up quite so often?

(not expecting miracles by the way I know he’s only 5 months and my 3 year old still occasionally wakes up haha but it’s just how frequent they are)

I'd carry on breastfeeding to sleep. People convinced me to stop the evening sleep association and it was traumatic and then did nothing for night time waking anyway!

For us it was just time, it took until 3-4 years for them to sleep more than an hour. It was like a developmental thing they had to figure out for themselves. In the meantime co-sleeping and coffee got me through, and a lot of concealer for work.
