4 month old sleeping with dummy in mouth

I suspect my 4 month old is going through the 4 month regression, he's been waking 6-8 times in the night for the last 4 weeks. At bedtime he falls asleep relatively easily in his next to me cot with his dummy. But then he seems to keep the dummy in his mouth for hours rather than it dropping out when he goes into a deep sleep. He's not actively sucking the whole time just every now and again and it does eventually drop, but I wonder if he's now dependent on it for sleep as he will often resettle if I reinsert the dummy in the night when he wakes.

Did anyone ditch the dummy at this stage and did it help with reducing night wake ups?

I tried at 5.5 months- lasted the morning until 1am as the crying was just too much. We had sleep trained but this crying was next level.

I had weeks of hell replacing the dummy.

I didn't try again but rode it out and it is much better now at 6 months although not great. This week he has started finding and replacing himself which is great.

People do say this is the best age to ditch it so if you can push through the cries , go for it!

I ditched them for my twins at 5 months, but... I only did that as they seemed to do it themselves at that age. I found I was encouraging it back into their mouths in the middle of the night if they were crying and they didn't really want it so I had a really easy ride giving them up!

I'd actually ditch it now, as it's much harder to do when they get older. I've found that with most things with being a parent (the short term gain, isn't worth the long term pain)

Awk just give them the dummy ffs what harm is it doing
