18 month old wakes up inconsolable after every nap

He hasn’t always been like this, it started about a month a go and it’s slowly just draining the life out of every day and making us all completely miserable.

I know people may ask what his sleep routine is like so I’ll use todays as an example (it’s usually about the same give or take 10-20 mins here and there):

  • Went to bed last night at 7:30pm and was asleep by 7:45pm.
  • Woke up for the day a little after 7am.
  • Nap at 12:30pm.
  • Woke up just before 3pm.
Everywhere I’ve read suggests his sleep schedule is perfect for his age. The worst of it is usually over within 1-1.5 hours but it generally affects his mood for the rest of the day until bedtime and it’s misery honestly. You can offer him anything, cuddles, picking him up, not picking up, leaving him to it, all manor of snacks, drinks, different things on the tv etc.. nothing makes him happy. He just shakes his head and screams no at everything.

If anything offering him things seems to make him angrier, yet when you leave him and walk off he finds you and is clawing at your legs. It doesn’t make sense honestly. It has somewhat coincided with a couple of illnesses and a couple of night wakings suddenly happening but could that really be making him that miserable still after every nap?

Has anybody else experienced this with their toddler?

This seems miserable for you. I'm many years past this stage but looks like you have tried lots of things. I'd get him checked by a HV or GP just for peace of mind. Good luck.
