Why won't he sleep!

I'm a FTM with a 3 week old boy, was 3 weeks premature and due tomorrow!
He's a gorgeous little thing apart from at night! He'll nap on me, nap in a sleepy head and a mummaroo, at night he just won't settle in the cot and I don't know why. I'll get him to sleep on me and transfer him but he wakes. If he's put straight in the cot he cries. We have a snuzpod.
He'll sleep in the bed with us but I don't want that. On occasion we've taken him downstairs for half hour and he's settled right away in the sleepyhead. I just don't know what to do...

Congratulations on your little baby! Your baby is completely normal. I wish this was taught in education. It isn't normal for a baby, especially a prem baby, especially in the fourth trimester to want to be away from your smell, feel etc at night. You are their whole ecosystem. They survive by being right next to you.

Invest in some good slings from your local sling library (NCT often host these). Look up Lullaby Trust guidance and set yourself up for safe co-sleeping. It is that or tag team with someone else so you sleep in the day for a few months and do the brunt of nights.
