Nap time sleep cycles

Why can’t my baby connect her nap time sleep cycles in the day? My LO is 6 months old and has only been able to nap for 30 mins at a time during the day for what feels like months. She sleeps through the night with no issues, but can’t seem to connect her sleep cycles during the day. She usually has 4 x 30 min naps, then sleeps 10-11 hours at night no problem.

she currently naps in the pram, car or contact nap - we’ve not yet been able to successfully get her to nap in her cot or independently. She is EBF also

any ideas?!

I think it’s quite normal for sleep cycles to not be connected as well during the day. Especially at a very young age. At night time there is more sleep pressure, their circadian rhythm is also helping them sleep and it’s the ‘natural’ time for humans to sleep. In the day there just isn’t as much sleep pressure plus perhaps noises, sights etc. that might alert the baby (even if you have black out blinds and white noise!!).
If you want more connection have you tried trying to help your baby connect it? How does your baby fall asleep? For example, if you rock to sleep you could try a gentle rock as they are stirring to help them back in.

Her best naps are often contact ones, as you’ve said I can gently rock her when she starts to stir to prompt her back into a cycle but oftentimes she’s just wide awake immediately!

Oh bless her! The world is just too exciting at that age. It will come with time and you’ll find she actually wants to be asleep more! I still sometimes go in to my LO (16 months) and help get into another cycle when she’s struggling, but I find she wants to go back to sleep now. She used to be like yours and bolt awake because the world is too fun!
It’s great she sleeps at night for you! That’s lucky for you!!
