Moses Basket

Hi. First time mum here and due in a few weeks!
I’ve kindly been given a wicker moses basket (I think it’s the Clair De Lune undressed one). I don’t have a liner (also called dressing) for it - I’ve bought a new mattress and fitted sheets and then have a choice of a sleeping bag or blankets.
Will baby be safe in it without a liner? What is the purpose of the liner?
Thank you!

I think it's just a bit scratchy on the edges without the liner

Your baby should be perfectly safe sleeping in the basket without a liner. Just make sure that the mattress fits perfectly and securely in the basket. And for a sleeping bag or blankets, I will go with blankets.

Because the basket is only £35 new. If the OP buys a new liner as well as the mattress there’s probably no saving at all.
