First time mama looking for advice!! My son is 8 months old has never been a great sleeper but although he woke up through the night maybe once or twice would always settle again when cuddled/dummy back in /bottle then put back into the cot, recently he will not settle in the cot and is waking every 2 hours, we have always had the same night time routine and stuck to it. We have night light, dark room etc Any advice for longer chunks of sleep? Examples or night time routines? Any tips and tricks? Thank you!

What is the day time routine like OP? Is LO down to 2 naps now?

Well he's never been a good napper either, more of a cat napper currently he has a 30 min nap in the morning around 8.30, 20 mins at around 11.30 and about 40 mins on a afternoon 1.30/2 ish. Do you think the 3 naps will make a difference to his night time sleep?

My son woke this often and sometimes more often, until he was over 2.

Safe co-sleeping worked for us. But I know it's not for everyone.

I think the total day time sleep is more important than number of naps (not an expert though). I think they need a bit more than 1.5 hours but it’s so hard if they don’t nap for good lengths of time!
What time are you putting him down to bed after his 2pm nap? Probably needs quite an early night I would imagine or he gets overtired?
my DS’s sleep went to pot around 6 months and didn’t sort itself out until he was 12 months old. Our issue was early waking though. I tried all sorts and not sure what worked but I think it was related to day time sleep.
Also - you don’t think your LO is teething/hungry/cold or something else when they are waking up? I’m sure you’ve thought about all that but worth ticking things off the list.

He does get so tired and really could do with napping longer but I've tried all sorts to try and lengthen his naps but it just doesn't seem to work, he normally goes to bed around 7.30, tonight I'll maybe try a 7 o'clock bed time as could the over tiredness be effecting his sleep? From around 3-5 months he slept all night but then we hit a sleep regression and he hasn't slept through since, about a month ago he did cut his bottom teeth but didn't seemed to effect his sleep to much- a little more clingy that week but he's all well now. I'll give an earlier a bed time a go though!

Yes or try and get the last nap so it ends a bit later - more like 3 30-4- so you have maybe 3.5 h wake window to bed time at 7.

hope it improves!! Sleep deprivation is killer so solidarity!
