Is my 11 week old baby sleeping too much?

This seems to be an unusual one....is my 11 week old baby sleeping too much, or should I just count myself lucky (for now?!)

He generally wakes between 7 and 7:30, will be awake for 90 mins, then get tired and go for a nap for about 4 hours, wake for another 90 mins, and nap again for 2 to 3 hours, wake for 60 - 90 mins.....last feed is generally around 11pm. Are his naps too long? He sleeps well during the night also, generally only waking once between 11pm and 7am.

Are the day time naps too long, and should I be limiting them and waking him up!? Thanks!

For now it seems fine! He seems to be sleeping long stretches at night. As he get older his sleep needs will change and he may need to be encouraged to stay awake or to have a slightly shorter naps, but for now, just go with it!

As long as he's gaining weight well and alert when awake I wouldn't worry :-)

Thank you! Yes, the log daytime naps aren't impacting his nighttime sleep (generally!) and he's putting on plenty of weight so not concerned in that regard.

I just needed some reassurance that it was OK, particularly when everyone else seems to be struggling with the opposite problem.

I know the long naps won't continue, so I guess I'll enjoy them for now!

Haha defo enjoy them. My son was an awful sleeper until 9 months, pregnant now and hoping no.2 is like yours!

When mine was born, he just slept, I had to wake him up for him to have his feed, and even then, he was barely alert, very lethargic. So, as long as he's alert when he's awake and is gaining weight, then I don't see any issue with this sleeping pattern. Enjoy it 😁

Oh my, mine literally had the opposite schedule to yours! I bet there are a lot of people who are very envious of you!

I worried the same thing about my 11 week old, but was reassured it was completely normal. Mine sleeps from 6pm - 6am (with 2 quick feeds at 9pm and about 2am). She is awake for an hour in the morning then, back to sleep for an hour, awake for 1 1/2 hours, asleep for 2, awake for 2 hours and then naps again! Just enjoy it! :)

So long as he is gaining weight and alert when he's awake that's fine - and won't last!

If he was much younger it COULD be a symptom of jaundice, but not at this age.

My first was like this. She dropped her last nap just before she started school Grin

Thanks all - seems like the consensus is to enjoy it while it lasts so 😀

So hard not to worry about everything!
