Where should a newborn sleep?

A cot? Moses basket? Co-sleeping cot (One of those things that attached onto the main bed)? or IN my bed?

I'd pretty much thought of a moses basket at the side of my bed, but now am ?

Any advice?

I'd say moses basket at the side of your bed. If neccessary, baby might end up in your bed at times.

There is no 'should'.

Everything you listed is an option, plus there are others.

Whatever suits you and your baby.

(Dd was supposed to sleep in a crib by my bed but disliked it from the start and instead slept in her pram with a decent mattress until we put her in a cot.)

Seriously, I had a carry-cot next to the bed where the baby would start the night off but then would move into our bed for a feed during the night and somehow never quite make it back into their own little bed, as I regularly fell asleep feeding and the crafty little blighters would just lie there and help themselves when they next felt hungry.

It differs from baby to baby and whether your bottle or bf is suppose.
My 1st ds, was in a cot from day 1 but had some time in my bed when feeding at night, i dont ever remember co-sleeping cots back then, would have been an advantage but never mind. Dd1 was in a cot, had a feed about 1.00am and then went back in cot. Ds2 Went in moses basket but didnt like it so ended upin cot and dd2 moses basket, then cot at around 3 mths and was in a bed by 18mths, i dont think she liked the bars too much was much better sleeper in her bed.

my lo's went in a crib for the first few months and then into the big cot. Moses baskets seemed a bit small and it wouldnt have lasted long before they grew out of it

Before I had my baby I thought I'd put him in a lovely carry cot by my bed but he hated it at the newborn period and still hates it now. He slept in bed with me for the first 3 months which felt so natural and right. Then very, very gradually I encouraged him to sleep in his co-sleeper cot when I felt he was ready (around 3 months). Now (5 months old) he has been sleeping in his co sleeper cot on his own from 8pm untill 4am or 6am when I normally take him into bed with me as he gets restless.

You don't have to worry about what the books say about developing 'bad habits'. (I'm glad that I stuck to my guns and let my baby sleep with me. We're both happy and I don't regret it.) Just have goals and work towards them gradually, taking opportunities to encourage indpendence when the opportunity aries or you think your baby is ready. Do what feels right for you and your family. Follow your heart. Things will get easier as a baby matures.

I've got an Amby (a baby hammock) and DS has loved it since day 3 (first two days - slept on DH or my chest!). He hated the Moses basket and his pram carricot.

I started off with a moses basket by the bed but but by day 7 she ended up in bed with me as it made sleep so much easier as I could breastfeed in my sleep.

It is completely your own preference where you want your baby to sleep. Is he/she born yet? You may feel that the natural thing for you will sort itself out. I was a hard nosed career woman pre child and having DD - it seems to have turned me into a bit of a hippy! 15 months on she still sleeps in our bed and it's lovely! Just stopped breastfeeding though - sob!

its completely up to you where your baby sleeps, but i think its best they sleep somewhere that is their own as day time naps my be difficult if you have them sleeping with you at night.

My ds (now 6months) slept in his moses basket during the day and during the night so he always has his own space. After each bf i would put him down and he;d sleep without too much trouble.
Although in the very early days (from birth to abt 4 weeks) he loved to fall asleep on the boob at night time so id usually leave him to sleep on my chest in bed, but i made sure he always had most of his sleeps in his moses basket.

We too liked to have him in our bed every so often but not all the time as you may not sleep as well, and thats no good of either of you!!

At the end of the day, you can;t plan any of this, it will entirely depend on where YOUR baby is happiest. Do what you feel is right.
