Can you do gentle sleep training whilst co sleeping?

My 6 month old is still in his chicco next to me and I ebf him still. However he is waking so much in the night I feel something has got to give. He's waking at 12,3, 5 and then I have to wake him at 7.30am to get my other kids ready for school. He'd probably happily sleep for longer if I didn't wake him then. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. We have a consistent day time routine with good naps but night time seems to be a different story. He's not even waking for feeds at this point. He's not in pain, or ill and he's perfectly happy in the day. Can anyone suggest any gentle sleep training whilst co sleeping or is it time for me to put him in his cot? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hi I did some sleep training with mine at 5.5 months and she’s still in her next to me (she’s now almost 7 months). My issues were that she wanted to sleep in my bed but wasn’t really sleeping well there either. Many many wakes or I couldn’t move. I almost then dropped her one night when trying to put her in next to me and so I decided I had to train her.

our key distinction is how she falls asleep kind of sets the night. So does your little one fall asleep independently? And how are you getting them to sleep during these wakes?

I should say the sleep training didn’t result in no wakes. my daughter does wake but it’s after about 4 hour stretches and quick feed and back to bed. I do want her to go longer but she can’t seem to without milk!

I definitely think it’s possible and not necessary to wait until they are in their room.

So are next to me cribs now for over six month olds?

@Librarybooker i believe there are some that are for over 6 months. But essentially i think you can assess if it’s safe for your child.
my daughter fits in it fine, doesn’t sit up herself from lying position, can’t pull to stand so wouldn’t fall out.
once it becomes unsafe or doesn’t fit of course i would move her to the bigger cot. Both sides are up of my daughters cot it’s just next to my bed. My room isn’t big enough for a bigger cot and she isn’t ready nor is it necessary for her to be in own room.

also some people use a normal cot with a side down and also call them next to mes as its beside the bed.

Thanks @Pinklilly. Yes I think this is key to them self settling. Going to start putting him awake at night. The chicco cot is actually quite big imo. My 1st son was in it until 8 months and he's 99 percentile. You know it's time to move them when they are no longer safe sleeping in there. My 6 month old so isn't lifting himself up yet so I know he's safe in there.
