Baby bed choice

First time mum
4 month baby in a next-to-me type crib after outgrowing his moses basket
he's probably got around 12-15cm in total above/below him so will maybe in it a few months more, rolling depending
i am not sure if we should move him next into a cot, or something like a toddler floor bed? I'd rather avoid buying another bed solution that only lasts a few months if we can. What do most people do?

We got a cot bed, it starts out as a cot but has bits so it can become a toddler bed when he needs it. Apparently he can be in it until he is 4 but he's only 18 months at the moment so it's still made up as a cot just now

Cot bed. Use as a cot with the sides up until they climb out or you feel they’re ready for a bed, prob around 2-3 years old, then you take the sides off, probably add a bed guard, and it’s a toddler bed that’ll last until ~4 years old.

Yep, cot bed here too.

would really advise against a floor bed, he’ll fall out a lot and end up crawling off everywhere in the night!

Yup this re a floor bed!

I think they have their uses like if your 3YO wants you to lie down with them to go to sleep and then you need to ninja roll away, or if they like to potter round their room at bedtime but end up crashing out on the floor. If that ends up being you, you can get a single mattress on floor slats as needed, single not toddler sized, so it can go onto a bed frame down the line. But I definitely wouldn’t be thinking of going straight to a floor bed with a rolling/crawling baby!

I’d go for a cot bed too.
You’ll only need a floor bed if your baby starts climbing out the cot and it becomes unsafe.. but not all babies climb. My DS is 3 now and has never tried to climb out.
And you could just use the mattress on the floor instead of buying a special floor bed if you needed to do that.

The chicco next to me Forever is kind of like a cot bed/floor bed hybrid. It can do both plus be a co sleeper and last until they're around 3.5ish.

However with my first I just put them in a single bed with a bed guard when they were about to turn 2.
