My 7 month old won’t nap longer than 20 mins

Hi there, hoping for some advice….
my 7 month old DS will not nap for longer than 20 mins, whether in a pram, car seat, being held or in a cot. He’s never been a great sleeper but it seemed to get better and now we’ve gone backwards again!
he doesn’t sleep great at night but generally does a good stint from 9 until 2 and then wakes pretty frequent from then. Always needs to be held to go back asleep.
Any advice on how to sleep train without the tears? Or is this just a phase he will grow out of?

It makes my DS quite cranky throughout the day, he whinges quite frequently and then there’s tears at bedtime because he’s so overtired.

i recently found out I’m pregnant again (not planned) so hoping to get his sleep sorted!

thanks in advance

Oh bless you! This sounds tough!! Sounds like he struggles to link his sleep cycles in the day (completely normal at this age). Have you tried resettling him when he stirs? How do you get him to sleep? Go in and do what ever that is as you feel him stirring. Babies usually have a cycle of around 40 minutes so he may be snoozing earlier than you realise. And then when he’s coming out of a cycle you just can’t get himself back in!
i personally am not a fan of sleep training because eventually yes the do all grow out of these things. But I have bought the No Cry Sleep Solution (not implemented anything yet) and it has some good hints and tips for getting babies to sleep better.
good luck and I hope it gets better x
