3 Month Old Wakes Constantly

My little boy is three months old and still wakes up constantly throughout the night. The longest stretch at the beginning of the night is around 2 hours. After that, it's 45 minutes to an hour. By the time i resettle him and get back to sleep, he has me up again.

My partner and I are both shattered/ at breaking point. He works long hours during the week but we do the wake ups in shifts at the weekend.

I don't get the chance to nap in the day as my baby will only sleep on me and wakes as soon as he is transferred to his cot.

He won't settle in the bed next to me and as I'm formula feeding I don't think there is any benefit to bed sharing anyway.

He once slept for around 4 hours when he was 8 weeks old- I would give anything to get this again!

Does anyone have any advice? I've tried using a worn t shirt in his cot, white noise, and the room temperature is 18-20 degrees.

I feel like everyone I speak to has babies that either sleep through the night or do at least 5 hours before their first wake up. I'm worried sleep will be this way for years!

Hi OP,

Wow you have been taking such excellent care of your son.

My son is just a few weeks older than yours we have just been through about 10 days of very different sleep. He has been doing two wakes a night with an initial long stretch, but suddenly transitioned to 3-4 feeds and quite a few resettles. From my reading there is just so much going on at this stage: growth spurts, developmental milestones, improved sight and hearing, and the sleep regression. It all can happen at about the same time.

I had been thinking “oh my goodness, can I keep doing this?” but it does seem to have reverted back now.

How long has this been going on for you?

Is there anyone who can take your son for a pram walk during the day so that you can have a nap?

This has been going on since he was born, we've never really got a longer stretch of sleep apart from the 4 hour fluke!
Unfortunately not at the moment ☹️

I just think you are absolutely amazing. I hope that you know what a wonderful mummy you are, and how well you’re taking care of your son.

With my son we have been using the “Love to Dream” swaddle. I’m not convinced it gets us that much more sleep, but it does claim to help. They also have a transition one for once they start to roll.

We’re currently renovating our house, so we’re in a small flat that is impossible to cool down. It’s about 23oC all the time. When we stay elsewhere, my son does seem to wake a bit more. I think he likes being snuggly.

One set of our friends bought the Snoo on FB Marketplace. It was expensive, but they have rationalised that they can resell if for the same amount. That might be worth considering? Have you seen it?

Hi I’m a ftm to nearly 4 month old. I’m not sure I have any advice as such but know how you feel! I ended up using Tommee Tippee sleep bags with his arms swaddled but now have the issue that I can’t get him to sleep with his arms out and know I’ll have to eventually when he rolls.
We also mostly contact nap. He would wake every time I tried to put him down for a nap. A couple of weeks ago I really
persevered with picking him up and putting him back down and eventually it clicked but he never does very long naps unless on me and it’s hard when you’re already tired.
I know it’s easy to say this and probably really annoying when you’re having a rough time but I have found that sleep suddenly changes even when you feel like it never will. I have spent so much on different things to try and help with naps and sleep but trying to just go with the flow now and trust it changes over time.
