3 Month Old Fighting Naps

Hi everyone,

In desperate need of some advise! My 3 month old has recently started fighting her naps - and I mean fighting! She absolutely screams the place down and gets herself in such a state. I've stopped taking her out places, particularly in the afternoon, as her crying is so bad.

I've been watching out for sleep cues and trying to get her to sleep straight away - that doesn't work. I've tried to let her go a bit longer but then she gets overtired. I've kept an eye on her wake windows...nothing seems to work. I cuddle her in, give her a dummy, shush her, play white noise...you name it I've tried it!

She is such a content little baby other than this and it really starting to affect me. I dread her getting sleepy because I know I've got a battle on my hands. Any experience with this would be grateful and please pass on if your little one grew out of it...I'm living in hope!!!

Did this get any better for you? Currently having the same issues I see everyone else’s baby just napping whenever on the sofa mine has to be rocked and a screaming fit before hand most of the time. Also only contact. It’s hard

Hi Rose,
my baby is now 4 months and things have really improved - however I purchased the Huckleberry app and that’s what’s been making all the difference. It suggests when to put baby down for a nap/bedtime and it’s been working really well for us. I’m the only one she lets put her to bed so that’s the next challenge and I can’t imagine her going to sleep without having to rock her. But one step at a time! Hope things improve for you, it’s so hard seeing them get so upset x

@SHFsMum what has Huckleberry told you that is different from wake windows? I'm interested because I have a sleep-resistant 3 month old and use a different (free) tracking app but it only tells me what I've asked it to (eg if I say I want a nap reminder 75 mins after he Wakes up then that's what it tells me)

@PoppingTomorrow it gives you the time to put them down at. And it’s scarily accurate! I hardly ever have a fight with her now and if I do it’s so much milder than it was! They also give you a personlised sleep plan based on your needs if you purchase the premium option. It’s been a game changer for us x

@SHFsMum I mean how does their suggestion differ from the wake window? I would imagine it learns based on when your child actually goes to sleep but sometimes mine goes 3 hours between naps.

SHFsMum · 29/04/2024 15:43

@PoppingTomorrow it takes age appropriate wake windows and learns from the data you input x
