2.5 year old wakes up every night crying

Hi, my son had a cold a few weeks ago and therefore slept in with me but since then every night even though he's better now he wakes up crying and screaming very upset and the only way to soothe him is to bring him into bed with me. It happens every night without fail usually around 10-11pm but sometimes 2am or 5am even. I think he's getting upset about his nose being blocked, although once he's in bed with me and in the daytime it doesn't seem to be blocked. Is this just a phase? I don't want him to be reliant on coming in to bed with me every night and I'm really longing for a good full nights sleep myself!

Any advice much appreciated thank you

My son had Night Terrors at that age. The way we got him to settle was to talk calmly to him and just hold his hand whilst he went back to sleep.
He grew out of them maybe 6 months later, but was tough going

If it's always occuring at the same sort of time you can try pre-empting it. Go in ten or 15 minutes before you think it will happen and lightly rouse him (just enough that has stirring or eyes briefly open) then stoke/pat/shush him back to sleep. Do it for a week and see what happens.

Alternatively I might be over tired. Any changes in his day? Or could just be that he needs a bit of extra dlee as he's recovering from his illness. Can you tweak his routine at all?
