Newborn asleep all night, awake all day

I have a 3 week old little girl - breastfeeding, putting on weight, plenty wet and dirty nappies. Hospital Infant feeding team advised I didn’t need to wake to feed her so I haven’t been.

She goes very long stretches at night asleep. Last night she slept from 9pm and then I’ve woken up at 5am and thought jeez that’s too long, woken her up to nappy and feed etc, then she’s slept about 4 hours before Ive woken her again! She has now been awake loads today.

Shes seems well and I’m certainly not complaining, but I’m worried as this seems so so far from the norm!! Has anyone else had this with their babies? First time mum so I’m probably just overthinking it!

Everything sounds great to me. Congratulations! She sounds just like my daughter was as a newborn.

My daughter was sleeping 12 hours by one month, my son by three months. As a result neither of them were great nappers when small. Can’t speak for my son as he’s still only 4 months but my daughter ended up dropping to one nap very quickly, but it was about 2 hours long. She stopped napping entirely at 2 but is still going 7:30-7:30 every night. So nothing to worry about and potentially a sign of a future good sleeper! My advice is to enjoy it! (And keep an eye on her weight gain of course)

Yep, sounds totally normal and the dream for newborns! My DD was sleeping through from about a month old. Enjoy it!

Yes, mine was like this and dropped naps completely at 13 months. I'd keep it as MN secret as many, many children are up several times a nighy until quite far into toddlerhood. Whilst both scenarios are completely normal, you may get some jealous looks.
Long may the sleep continue. It was bliss knowing that at 3pm, there was only 4 hours to go until I had a lovely long rest.

Brilliant thank you all! I will just enjoy my sleep then 😄 fingers crossed it lasts!
