6 month old waking after short time

My 6 month old can't seem to sleep at night any more. Aware this is not uncommon but welcome any tips! He will go to sleep fine, although either on me or my partner - we are currently trying to break the feed-to-sleep cycle. Then we will transfer him into his cot and he will stay asleep, seem totally settled, then out of nowhere anywhere between 2 min and 20 min will wake up and will not settle at all (just gets more and more distressed if we try to comfort/resettle in the cot) so we will take him back out and start again. This can happen up to 4 or 5 times before we get a longer sleep, usually 1.5 to 2 hours. Any help would be great. Or if you've been here any they just grew out of it themself that would also be reassuring!

Is his cot too cold? A midwife once told me to keep it gradual for sleep - it's a shock to the system to move from warmth, contact, feeding and heartbeat to alone, colder and no boob. Removing one comfort at a time can help them settle- wrap him in his cot blanket while he's on you, then lie him down beside you, then into the cot and 'ooze' your arm and hand away.

Also, yes it is totally normal and he will grow into longer stretches of sleep.

My son was doing this recently. He would wake up 10 minutes after he went to bed and it was really difficult to get him down again. We changed his day naps slightly and made his wake windows a little longer and it stopped him waking up after a short time.
