Help - 6 month old waking after rolling onto back

My six month old is great at rolling - during the day he can easily roll from back to front and vice versa. From about 5 months he has preferred sleeping on his side and even though we still put him down on his back, within seconds he will roll onto one side and can definitely sleep well on his side. The problem is lately he will sleep on his side for maybe 10 min then start moving, roll onto his back and then start to cry and completely wake up. He could definitely roll back onto his side if he wanted, he has the ability and the space. We have tried many times to gently roll him back onto his side when he does this but that upsets him more. Any thoughts on what to do? We are really struggling with lack of sleep at the moment 😭

Are you sure he doesn't have reflux or anything else that is making him feel uncomfortable when he is laying on his back?

I’m afraid you probably just need to go with this one until he figures it out! My two were both the same (but they’d get stuck on their fronts).

I thought for a minute you'd cracked it! We had basically stopped burping him as he didn't seem to need it anymore but I just tried now after feeding him and he did burp then he went down no problem... Then he stirred 10 min later, went on his back and started to get upset 😭

He used to do that too (get onto his front, get stuck and cry) but now he can roll both ways he's not really stuck I'd say, so I'm not sure what's upset him... Maybe it's just being awake that's the problem - but why is he waking after such a short time 😭
