In bed between 7-7.30pm, story and then left to sleep.

Upstairs at 7-7.15, lights out around 8pm. Usually asleep in 10 minutes. Wakes up at 7ish.

4.5 year old here. He goes up to bed about 7.30. We normally have a book and a chat and then lights out about 7.45/8. He's generally asleep pretty soon after that.

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 05/02/2024 20:34

In bed for 7, he will either read his book or we will read 2 books to him then light out and straight ti sleep by 7:20

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 05/02/2024 20:39

8pm (for a 5.5 yo)

ideally it would be 7-7.30 but they have a sibling who is a year older (they are Y1 and Y2) and nowhere near tired at that time - they also tend play quite nicely together 7-8pm so it's less hassle to just send them both together and avoid the drama of interrupting their game.

its a hard deadline though and they both know that any arguing or messing about will land them both in bed before 8pm

the 5 yo goes to sleep almost immediately at 8pm and the 7yo reads for another 30 mins or so and falls asleep book in hand around 8.30

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 05/02/2024 20:48

Exactly the same as @Iudncuewbccgrcb

WaitingfortheTardis · 05/02/2024 20:49

Usually tucked in by 7, she falls asleep fairly quickly after her story.

My little boy goes to bed 7-7:15, we read a few stories (he's a real book worm) but he's not falling asleep for ages and ages! He still gets up at around 6:30/7 am and is full of beans all day, I don't know where he's getting the energy from!

Just wanted to know everyone else's bedtimes as I thought I might be putting him down too early

My 5.5yo is in bed for 8pm and usually asleep by 8.20-8.30 after storytime. Older DC have a 9pm bedtime. Both DC wake up around 7.30, earlier at the weekend

Saschka · 05/02/2024 21:49

8pm, but he also didn’t need to get up until 8am (we live close to school and have a very efficient morning routine).

I think most 5 year olds need about 12 hours sleep, so I’d look at when you need him to wake up and count backwards. If you are having to shake him awake in a morning, he’s going to bed too late.

mrsed1987 · 02/04/2024 10:21

8pm bedtime here. We have actually just moved it forward a bit it was 8.20/8.30.

8pm bedtime hasn't made a difference to his wake up time which is about 6.30am/7am. Ideally I'd like to try and move it a little more (as long as it doesn't effect wake up time!) But I'm 38 weeks pregnant and don't want him to link the earlier bedtime to the baby coming!

Sprogonthetyne · 02/04/2024 11:46

4.5yo goes at 7pm, though that is in part a practical consideration as her big brother goes at 8, and it's easier to offset them so they don't get each other worked up. Would probably be more like 7.30-8.00 if she was an only.
