4yo night waking for 1-2 hours

Hello, has anyone had the same experience or know why it's happening? My 4yo is usually a great sleeper, 12 ish hours a night, pretty undisturbed.

Since Xmas she's started waking up in the night and unable to get back to sleep for 1-2+ hours. She's not crying, just lying there and will call us in every now and then to tell us she can't sleep. Nothing helps her go back - sometimes we leave her, sometimes warm milk, or tonje sleep music, take her for a wee wee etc

We've tried limiting sugar, screen time etc in the lead up to bedtime. No other major changes (she's not started school yet).

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks
Megan

This is normal. Almost every human has insomnia at times. Young children have very active minds and a lot of stuff to process.

The way to deal with it IMO is to tell her that everyone wakes up at times, that she should read until ready to sleep and that it will only happen sometimes. Don't make a big thing of it.

Some people make a nest so their kids can come into their room as it is scary sleeping alone.
