4 year old awake for hours at night

My 4 year old is going through a phase of waking up at night and staying awake for hours. This is not a new thing and is something he has always done on and off. Normally he wall fall back into a good routine on his own after a week or so. This most recent phase seems to be going on for quite a few weeks. He has been waking up at around 4 and spends the next 2 hours jumping up and down on his bed and rolling around. I think school holidays have thrown everything out of sync.

We have tried bringing him into our bed, sometimes he will go back to sleep quite quickly other times he will stay awake and just jump around. We have also tried just leaving him, he doesn’t call out for us, cry or anything and is happy to stay in his room on his own, he’s just wide awake.

He goes to bed at about 7:30 and will be asleep between 8 and 9. We have tried earlier bedtimes and he just stays awake until that time anyway.

Today he has been awake since 3 and it is now 6 and he’s just fallen back asleep and I’ll have to get him up in an hour or so to get ready for school.

How can we help him get back into sync?

Thanks. Sorry for the long post!
