5 Yr old sleep issues

We are currently caring for our 5 yr old grandson he has been placed with us via SS . In the last 6 months we have had no issues with sleep . However now he will not go to sleep . Could this be due to sch holiday and no routine? But now its 10 pm by the time he settled where as it was 7 pm b4 the holidays. As 2 not so young ppl who both work full time we are getting bit tired. I don't know what to do I have tried all the techniques I have read about the sitting on his bed .. the reassuring him I've even given him a Teddy to look after . At first he said he was scared we were going to leave him . I get that now it has changed to there are monsters. Any advice greatly appreciated

It's a great and necessary thing you're doing, it's great he's got you. What does your evening look like, do you build downtime in running up to bed? Has he burnt off enough energy before? What time do you want him to get up and to go to sleep? Make sure that is age appropriate. For some ref, my 6yo goes to bed at 7:40 and is up at 6:40. Other than that, a red night light might help. He might like it if you leave his door open and potter about upstairs, checking in on him. While he's dropping off. It might just take a while for him to feel secure.

Thanks I no the other option is not happening. He at sch all day well now from yesterday. He up at half 6 and we out from 7am bedtime is 7 pm .. Cebbes bedtime stories teeth story cuddle song kiss and cuddle same as from when he came to us . I just don't know how to get him to settle . He has been coming to my house once a week since he was born so it like his 2nd home
