4am is not morning!

Youngest DS is 13months and sleep has always been challenging. He has only just started to sleep through but is up like clockwork at 4am. You would think I'd know what I was doing as he's number 4 but I'm out of ideas!

Only 1 nap after lunch for 1.5hrs. Bedtime at 7 and he goes off relatively easily. He's not crying or whinging, just awake and wanting to play. We've tried moving bedtime but makes no difference. If we try 2 naps he then struggles to go over at night.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Sorry should add I've tried to put him back down after a cuddle, sat with him, rocked him, white noise but no luck. I do take him down from 5am as otherwise he wakes our older boys and they have school/college/uni so I feel bad if he wakes them.

Can you shorten his nap?

Oddly no and now you say it that sounds really logical 🤦‍♀️

Is he cold/hot? I read somewhere that waking between 4-5 was usually a temp thing. He may need less sleep in the day but that's young to be on one nap-my daughter dropped to one nap at 11 months and would have a 2-3 hour lunchtime nap so I think 1.5hours is fine. All of her friends dropped to one alot later.

Could try adjusting but I don't think it will help. I'd look at temp first. Good luck, 4am is deff middle of the night 😭

Thank you. He has a winter grow bag and doesn't seem cold but could be too hot. Bedroom thermometer says 21 so that could be a good call. I don't want to reduce his nap but at this point we'll try anything!
