Using a bed guard for co-sleeping

Has anyone got experience of using a bed guard for co-sleeping? Are they safe to use?

I sometimes bring my 6 month old daughter into my bed at night but DH is getting out to give her enough space and so she isn’t in the middle of us. If I got a bed guard on my side, I could have her in between me and the guard, but don’t know if this is a safe option?

Can anyone direct me to any guidance? Thank you!

Yes I did this. We actually put the full size cot on my side of the bed and took the side off. We had to match the cot mattress level to the bed level which took a bit of work but it worked well until we got a cosatto side rail.

It's not considered safe because there is a risk they can get stuck between the rail and the mattress, not sure how likely this would be but not worth the risk ime. A safe option would be to 'sidecar' a cot to your bed, the Beyond Sleep Training Project page on FB has lots of useful information

This one is pretty similar to what we did, although we just modified our own cot.

I agree with the poster who said that obviously it isn’t going to be as safe as in a proper cot but it allowed me to continue bf for months and months after I would have stopped otherwise as I was back to work by 9 months.

@upwardsonwards thank you! We unfortunately have a very small bedroom and can’t fit a cot by the side of the bed or we would have had a next to me crib. She’s currently in her Moses basket still and comes into my bed when she’s very unsettled. I’d keep her in her Moses basket for the foreseeable if she’d fit 🤣
