Night bottle nightmare!

Hello everyone,

Hoping for some advice on how to cut out night bottles for my 11 month old son.

Since we decided to move him into his own room and Ferber sleep train at 6 months, his sleep has been pretty good. He usually sleeps 7-6 ish without a wake up, or if he does wake, it’s just once. We also used the Ferber method to gradually reduce his night feeds when he was 6 months. This worked really well and he was off night feeds quite quickly.

He is now 11 months old and after a period of illness and teething, the night wake ups are increasing. Again, it’s usually just once or twice which is manageable, but the main problem is that he will not settle without a big bottle of formula (at least 7oz). We have tried reducing the amount to try and wean him off which hasn’t worked this time as he will be inconsolable until he’s had a large amount. We have also tried the usual tricks such as rocking/patting etc but no luck.

He has been a big fan of formula since I stopped breastfeeding at 6 months and tends to have 4x 7oz bottles per day plus extra at night.

In terms of solids, it’s been a bit of a slow start but he now has a fairly good appetite and has breakfast, lunch and dinner with no issues.

However, I cannot help thinking that the amount of formula he is having must be impacting his appetite during the day. I’m also concerned because he is coming up to 12 months and I’m keen to wean him off the bottle and move onto cowes’ milk.

I would be grateful if there are any mums out there who have dealt with similar problems and might be able to offer some advice!

Thank you so much
Xx
