5.30am wake ups- anyone conquered these?!

My 13 month old DD has started sometimes sleeping through the night (unless ill or teething) but if she does she wakes at 5.30am.

I'm SO pleased and grateful when she does sleep through. However the icing on the cake would be a wake up at 6. Is this achievable?!

This is our current routine...

5.30 wake up- try and leave her until 6. Nappy change and water.
7 breakfast
7.30 milk
9.15 nap for 45 mins (have to wake)
10.30ish snack
12 lunch
1/1.15 ish nap - often wakes herself but if not I wake her at 3
3.30ish snack
5 dinner
6.30 milk
7 bath
7.20 bed time

Should I drop a nap? If I did though wouldn't she wake from hunger (as would be hard to get her to 12 with a 5.30 wake up).

Any tips gratefully received!

How about moving to one nap at 11ish, after morning snack?

AlltheFs · 21/12/2023 16:07

Don’t change anything, she will change routine herself in a few months anyway.

My DD dropped her second nap early when she went to nursery at 13.5 months and dropped all naps at around 2. She’s not a morning person which is lovely (wakes about 8-9am naturally but also a PITA as she doesn’t go to sleep until late (8.30pm is good going for us). Be careful what you wish for!

We tried everything. Eeeeeeeverything.

DD is now nearly 4 and sleeping till 630 ish. She just had to grow out of it.

I don’t mean this to be depressing! But I wish I’d just gone with it earlier rather than stressing about something that wasn’t fixable.

Thanks for your reply. That could work, my worry is she's normally ravenous by lunchtime but maybe if I gave her a big snack e.g. a whole banana it could work and then lunch after.

Thanks for this!

Thank you! Did you find your DD just did it herself? Did you still try to put her down for her naps but she refused them?

Thanks so much. I appreciate the honesty actually and wish I'd gritted my teeth and accepted the terrible first year rather than living in hope every night only to be woken up every hour or 2!

Ds is two and wakes anywhere between 4 am and 6 am 😩😩 he rarely naps anymore, doesn't matter what time bed time is , his body clock just says its time to get up and that's it.

minipie · 21/12/2023 19:51

DD didn’t sleep past 5.30 until she started school. She’s now 11 and 6.45 is a lie in for her.

Around age 3, we taught her to stay in bed till 6 and look at books (then 6.15 and 6.30 etc) using a gro clock. But that wasn’t possible till she was at least 2.5 and took a while.

Sorry.

DS is 17 months and went through a 5.30am wake up phase around 13 months too. It did end when he dropped to 1 nap. And although it only pushed to around 6-6.15am, that extra half an hour or so is priceless! For some reason 5.30am always feels like the middle of the night.
