14 month old - ready to drop to 1 nap?

I’m just looking for advise or anyone else’s experiance. But my 14m old has been on 2 naps a day since about June, and in the last week or so he’s been a nightmare to go down for them, usually (used to be) 9am and 2pm an hour each. Wakes between 6-7am and bed at 7pm and sleeps through.

But now i’m putting him down and he’s just playing in his cot? He’s not crying or distressed he just plays or lays there wide awake. He might take 30/40 mins to drop off to sleep. Does this sound like he’s ready to drop a nap? And then i worry if i dropped to 1 nap, when do i do it? and what if he’s screaming for a nap at 11 and then awake by 12.30 - how will he go from then to 7pm? Am i just otherthinking it all.

Also should add he is only really fighting them at home, nursery said he’s going down fine for them!

Any help or tips welcome 😃

Hi OP!

its a challenging time going down a nap for sure!

mine is 12 months and transitioned quite soon, he also started fighting his 9am and 2pm nap schedules and it was a bit all over the place for a while.. i tried to move his first nap later as he just fought that second nap so much.. i first moved it to 10:30 and now it is around 11:00. He sleeps for 2 hours.. he also wakes 6am in the morning and goes down at 7pm so he has a 5 hour then 6 hour wake windows ideally.

as for nursery - when we are travelling or have family with kids over he is so overstimulated that he goes back to his old 2 nap routine. So could be that he just gets more input at nursery than at home and needs more sleep there.

fighting naps are hard, and if he is playing he clearly isnt tired. Try to work towards the longer mid day nap
