Tips on Babie's night sleep

DS is 4.5 months. Used to sleep so well at night but didn't sleep in the day. Anyway now naps every 2.5 hours in the day for 30 mins at a time. Night time he has started waking every 1-1.5 hours. Dummy works only for a few mins & ultimately it's food he's after (FF) so after a couple of half asleep ounces drunk he goes back to sleep, only to wake an hour or so later. He's in a cot. He's a huge baby, we have never swaddled him. It's either a sleeping bag or blanket.

When he used to wake at night it was every 2.5-3 hours & he would have a decent feed then go back down. Now it's like I say, up every hour or so. He doesn't fully wake up most of the time, it's almost like he's got something on his mind & just wakes himself up. Sometimes he thrashes around first, sometimes not. I never had an issue with DD & her sleep so never sleep trained. Is it worth it? I always feel like nothing is permanent & just let him do what he needs to do at the time but wondering also with that attitude if that is setting us all up for a fall in the long run. I put him down 40 mins ago & he's woken up 15 mins in screaming his head off. Left him for 5 mins hoping he may self settle but that didn't really work so I've given him a dummy & after ten mins of him spitting it out & me putting it back in, he's asleep but for how long who knows. No idea on whether I 'should' sleep train him (no idea how to anyway) and /or leave him to self settle when he cries. Any advice much appreciated!
