Naps and linking sleep cycles

My 13 week baby 90% of the time will nap 30-45 mins (one sleep cycle), but very occasionally will go longer and do 1hr+ which makes me think he can link sleep cycles sometimes and other times not? Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Yeah. Linking sleep cycles is a learnt process. It takes practice.

Yes, it is a hit and miss for naps until they learn to link cycles. Some babies will go through the 4 month regression sooner or later than others. I use contact napping to extend the cycle but not always successful.
