Coughing overnight and disturbing sleep

DS16months, always been a great sleeper. Last 8 weeks have been a nightmare with canines coming in, have hurt him more than molars…
He has now developed a routine of waking up between 2.30-5am, coughing loads so wakes him up, then starting to have a chat to himself which results in him getting upset and starting to cry and throwing his dummy out. I go in and pop it back in and give him a cuddle til he’s drowsy and pop him back down. He doesn’t cough at any other point of the day or night!
We are lucky it’s only once a night, he seems to go down fine around 7-7.30pm and then if he’s woken up in the night he wakes up between 6.30-7.30am.
Has anyone else experience the coughing in the early hours? Or the same experience of overnight waking that appeared out of nowhere?

Nocturnal coughing can be a symptom of Asthma in children. Worth getting him checked by your GP.
