Transition cot to bed

Hi
DS1 is 15 months, sleeps in cot in nursery beside our bedroom. He's a good sleeper (12hrs a night), always in a different position when I check on him throughout the night but always sound asleep. DS2 is 8 weeks, sleeps in our room. I will need to move DS1 into his new bedroom in couple months to let DS2 into the nursery (& out of our room). Should I get a toddler bed for DS1, he'll be around 18 months. He is walking. How long are you supposed to keep toddler in a cot??

Up to you, but if showing any signs of climbing out they must transition to a bed.
My toddler (nearly 3) has a cot bed. They are still in it with the side on, because they aren'f show signs of climbing and I'm all for an easy life!

Baby (11months) is in another cot bed in the same room
