My 6 month old DS will not nap in the day. The only exceptions are if we happen to be driving somewhere and he drops off (only to be woken a short time later when we arrive) or occasionally at the end of a walk when he falls asleep in his buggy and we can park him asleep in the hallway when we get home. As for his cot, we have tried everything thats commonly advised (wait for sleep cues, dark room, rocking, singing to him, room at good temperature, comfortable bedding, a consistent routine, often try to feed him to sleep as he does at night or wait until he's a bit drowsy in our arms before laying him down) ... but as soon as he's placed in the cot he's suddenly wide awake and will not stop screaming until he's picked up again. And he will scream for a full hour - he won't tire of it.
Has anyone been in this position and cracked it?
Separately, I wonder if, when he feeds himself to sleep and it takes 30 - 60 minutes, is he actually just 'sleep feeding'? Does this time count as a nap? (Though however asleep he looks, if I try to unlatch him before he's ready he will wake up immediately!)
He sleeps great at night in the cot, usually 11 hours with just the one feed after about 8 hours. No problem at all on that front. He always feeds himself to sleep at night - takes around 30 minutes. But this no longer works during the day.
