Bedtime Battles

Hi everyone

My 4 year old son (5 in Dec) started school last month. Prior to this, bedtimes were always a long drawn out affair, but now they are just even worse as he has started kicking, punching and being verbally aggressive- calling us stupid and saying he hates us.
we take him up to bed at 7 but he will constantly get out of bed and run around, will not settle, says he is bored and he hates bedtime. My son has never napped much and just has constantly energy 24/7 so never relaxes. Most nights we have to sit on the stays for a good 2 hours with him and the whole bedtime charade, and it’s costing us our relationship as we never get to spend any time together. We are really starting to resent bedtime and the constant struggles, arguments and we really need some help on how we can get him to relax and enjoy bedtime and some how start to do this semi independently himself also.

May I add my son still comes in my bed about 2am each night, this I can deal with as he simply goes to sleep. But it’s the getting him to bed which is becoming the issue I simply don’t get any downtime.

Help!
