Three year old's sleep - help please!

My three and a half year old dd goes to bed around 7:30pm and gets up whenever I go in to her (usually around 8am- she's usually awake). She has recently given up her daytime nap. It is very unusual to hear a thing from her after she's gone to bed.

However, as we have a new baby due any day, we bought a baby monitor and decided to try it out on dd. What a revelation! We could hear her whispering to herself for ages after she's gone to bed, sometimes until around 9pm! In the morning, she seems to wake between 6am and 7am and whispers to herself some more. Sometimes this whispering sounds very enthusiastic and animated!

This sounds really silly, but I'm worried she's not getting enough sleep. I read that 3yr olds are meant to get 12hrs. Obviously, I would have no idea how to get her to sleep more, and she is being ever so good!

Any ideas? How much do your 3yr olds actually sleep?

Um, this really does not seem like something to worry about in the least! If she seems fine, then she is fine. She sounds an absolute sweetie for letting you sleep.

She sounds an absolute darling.

And my kids (nearly four and 18 months) do it too, I'm pretty sure.

Thank you - she is a sweet little girl. I'm now convinced I can see bags under her eyes though!
