Random terrible nights

My baby (just turned 5 months old) on the whole does a big stretch of between 6-8 hours then has a feed then will sleep another stretch of about 3 hours and sometimes need resettling around 5am so then usually wakes around 6am which is absolutely fine but for some reason i’d say once a week/fortnight he will have a night where his ‘big stretch’ is just like 3-4 hours and then it’s hourly from there until i feed him then maybe he will do a 2/3 hour stretch after the feed around 2am but then same thing resettling around 5am for that last hours sleep. I don’t understand why the majority of the time he is sleeping so well and then every so often he has a random night of just waking hourly there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with him he’s got 2 teeth so i know he could be teething as he’s very dribbly but i put teething gel on before bed and this usually does the trick if he’s a bit whingy in the evening and gnawing things but that doesn’t seem to be aligning with these random terrible nights sleep. It happened the other day when the temperature dramatically dropped overnight so i put it down to being too cold but it’s happening again tonight and i can’t see an obvious reason for it, is this just something that happens sometimes they have off nights? first time mum so just unsure as to why he can sleep so well majority of the time and then inconsistently and periodically just have terrible nights for no apparent reason?
