Sleep training (going in 5 min intervals) help

Hi

we sleep trained (popping in every 5 mins) my son (nearly 1) at about 7 months. He's always been a poor sleeper.

It worked mainly and he was only waking once a night.

Roll on starting nursery and sicknesses and bugs. During a bad bug I let him sleep in bed with me for a week. Now I'm having to re sleep train and it's worse than ever - it's nearly 3 and he's been awake since 1.30am. I've fed him so it isn't food. I'm popping in every 5 mins. Why is this worse than ever?! Am I doing something wrong?

I can't let him sleep with me as it's affecting my sleep and in turn my mood and my work. I can't function

Any one experienced this?

Sympathy!

Have you tried explaining it to him? (Repeatedly!) He is probably old enough to understand.

'You slept with me because you were sick but now you need to sleep in your own bed again. Mummy loves you but i don't sleep well when we bed share. I will see you in the morning and we can read a story'.

Or similar.
