8mo, dummy help - when to remove?

Baby is 8 months old has a dummy and loves it. Uses it throughout day but mainly for sleeping

he is in his own room in a cot and we have put about 10 in his cot. The problem is when they fall out he wakes up, could be a couple of times a night. Literally just put it in his mouth and he turns over and back to sleep. I suspect if it wasn’t for the dummy he would sleep through the night or longer stretches

I don’t want this to continue affecting his sleep for months to come

I know I probably should have done it much sooner but when should I remove the dummy? Do I need to wait til he is a bit older now? Do you just do cold turkey?

thanks
