Bed for toddler

I'm after some advice please on what type of bed to get for DS who is 26 months.

He's never been a great sleeper. He's in his own room in a cot and has slept through in the past, although he's always been an early riser. Currently sleep has deteriorated to 2 or 3 wake ups a night. After 4am he's impossible to get back to sleep without me climbing into his crib with him! And even then he's up for the day at 5am.

Im suffering from major lack of sleep. I struggle to get back to sleep after he wakes as I'm waiting for the next wake up. And obviously I don't really fit in his cot with him so can't sleep in there.

We have done some controlled crying in the past but it doesn't seem to work as effectively now he's older. He seems quite worried about being on his own. I'm therefore thinking about changing his cot for a bed that I can sleep in with him when he wakes up and won't settle. I can't bring him into our bed as my partner works odd shifts and would disturb us either early morning or late night.

My question is - what kind of bed should I go for? A floor bed looks good but I can't find a decent price double size one. Alternatively I could get a normal double and put bed guards up I guess? The room is big enough for a double. Is it ok for a toddler to have a big bed like this?

Anything I haven't thought of? Any advice for making the transition?

You may want to get a soft mattress for the cot, and maybe incorporate some white noise to help him sleep better. basketball legends

100% recommend getting a double - tou can get in as and when needed and you both are comfortable. My DS was similar and we got him a double at age 7.. wish we’d done it sooner!!
