I've just given birth to my second baby 4 days ago but having real issues with sleep.

She sleeps all day other than to feed/change nappy. Might be awake for 20 mins here and there but pretty much just wants to sleep. At night after the feed she will not sleep at all. The past few nights she is awake for over 3 hours between 1- 5am. She isn't hungry, isn't dirty and has no wind/discomfort. When I lay her down in the moses basket she cries and cries until she is lifted. Once lifted she stops and just looks about her or eventually sleeps on me upright if at all.

I'm really confused as such a young baby usually only wakes to eat/change nappy etc. Has anyone an idea of what could be happening or what should be done differently?

I think you need to try and keep her awake more in the day. Take longer to change the nappy, talk to her and show her things, rather than just rushing to feed her.

Thanks, that was my initial thought but feels a bit strange actively trying to keep such a young baby awake if she wants to sleep but given third night in a row I'll try anything!

I read that most are born with day and night confused. You can try to correct it by taking them outside first thing in the morning and during the day and keeping it as dark and quiet during the night but it will take time.
