12 week old sleeping on back (reflux)

Hi everyone! I’m really worried i’m creating bad sleep habits with my 12 week old. He has suffered with reflux (and silent) since he was around 6 weeks, he is currently on omeprazole which has slightly improved it (he’s still sicky but it doesn’t seem to bother him as much) anyway my issue is, because or the reflux he realllly struggles to sleep on his back. He’s actually not that bad at night, he tends to get fussier per night feed and by around 3/4am we end up co sleeping cause hes unsettled every half hour but hes rarely sick of a night. My problem is his napping, he absolutely will not nap in his cot, i’ve tried the whole wake window/put him in his cot to self soothe but the moment he's on his back the sick just keeps coming out the side of his mouth. He’s pretty much always rocked to sleep and then placed on the sofa on his side🤦‍♀️ this is the only way we can non-contact nap in the day! He clearly has a preference to side sleeping and i can supervise his naps. It just seems so unstructured and i’d never admit this to the health visitor haha. Can anyone advise me? Or is it just a case of waiting for the reflux to get better and sleep training?

My first was a reflux baby! It is really tricky whilst you're in it. Is he your first baby? At 12 weeks it is still really normal for a baby to want to sleep with their parents. My daughter had short naps in her Moses basket from quite early on but my son wouldn't nap in his cot or next to me until 6 months. Would only ever contact nap.

Are you able to pop baby in a sling for a nap if you want to get on with things around the house / out and about? That way he will be upright too.

It's just developmental more than anything else.

Second baby i acually have a 13 year old daughter! She fed like a trooper though from what i remember, could throw her in the air after and nothing would happen😂 so this is all so new to me. From what age did your daughters reflux improve? It’s reassuring to hear i’m not the only co sleeper at night, with all the advice against it you cant help but feel you’re doing something dreadful, as safe as i am with it. I will look into getting a sling thank you x

My son was exactly the same with the reflux. He either napped in my arms, or napped on the sofa too. As soon as he could roll over, he started sleeping on his front at night. I'd put him down on his back and he'd flip himself to his front and sleep like that. It was about then we managed to get him to nap in the cot. I remember thinking I'd never get him to nap in his cot, now he does 2.5hrs in middle of the day! You'll get there x
