Hi all

we are still holding our 22m old to sleep, only take a few minutes but id like to stop and wondered if putting her in a bed would help. What age did everyone change from cot to bed? Thanks

Child #1 was evicted at 2.5 because I needed the cot for his sister. She stayed in her cot until 3.5 because she liked it and I didn’t need it sooner. Child #3 was climbing out at 18 months, so that’s when she got a bed.

I do childcare for infants and toddlers and the advice I usually give is if a child is happy and not climbing out to leave them in their cot, especially if they take good naps.

Just don't do it, first night in big girl bed at 2 and a half and now a year later the novelty of coming to my bed in the night has not worn off 🤣🤣🤣

Seriously though I think they (the ominous they) say to wait as long as possible, if you are holding to sleep and then she sleeps through maybe just enjoy that for a little while longer? It's a big transition to the big bed and could result in more disturbances - although it could be absolutely fine of course !

When they start climbing out!

It's unlikely that the change to a big bed is going to help them self settle. You need to get them self-settling in the cot they are comfortable and familiar with and then change to a bed. Don't do both at the same time.

Thanks all! Any advice on how to get her to self settle? She does it occassionally! It doesnt bother me too much holding her just now shes getting older i think i will start to struggle holding her!
