We are in the four month sleep regression from hell. It started at around 14 weeks and is still going six weeks later but it’s getting worse. Every night he wakes up 30 mins after I put him down. On a good night he’ll then sleep until around midnight before waking two hourly. On a bad night he’ll wake up regularly from that point. He often wakes hourly from 1am.
last night was the worst. He woke at 10.45pm, 12.45am and then didn’t sleep for more than 20 mins until 6.15am when he was up for the day. Today he’s really fought naps and he’s just woke up crying after 15 mins, I have no doubt because he’s over tired.
It just seems to be getting worse rather than better.
I try to stick to a routine as much as I can. His wake windows seem to be roughly two hours. He has a morning nap between 30 mins and an hour, a lunchtime nap which usually lasts 90 mins to two hours, and then a half hour nap late afternoon. I can’t always stick to this as I have a toddler but I try my best. He is exclusively breastfed. Naps in his crib. Sleeps in the dark with white noise. Don’t think he has any underlying health issues. Doesn’t seem to hot or too cold. I’ve also tried giving a bottle of formula before bed to see if it works - it doesn’t.
Other than trying to reduce his feed to sleep association and / or sleep training I’m at a loss as to what to do.
Any suggestions? Before this he was a dream sleeper, woke like clockwork at 1am and 4am for a feed.
My eldest was a bad sleeper too so I do know it passes, but he at least woke every two hours whereas this just seems insane.
