Always been tricky sleeper, can make progress but seems very sensitive to any changes/developmental leaps etc so we always seem to be taking steps back. I know sleep is up and down in first year but this seems mad.
Difficulty this time seems to be that she cries every time I put her in her cot for sleep. Methods to help her get to sleep seem to no longer be reliably working well (eg rocking, sleeping), but she cannot get self to sleep. Plus she always wakes at transfer anyway. Tried gentle sleep training (staying with her by cot to reassure when upset, taking her out if hysterical but otherwise letting her figure out drifting off). She started getting it but then cut first tooth and lost it completely - inconsolable for two nights and then training fell to the wind.
Tried again a few nights ago, went ok. Long time to fall asleep but mostly calm and minimal crying. However then came down with cold and last night fed to sleep and woke briefly on transfer but went right back to sleep. Nice reprieve for us but not helpful for sleep training consistency! Tonight is tricky again and she cries whenever I put her in her cot. Will not be reassured. How can I sleep train consistently when every other week there is something that seems to disrupt it? I’m not even sold on sleep training idea anyway, but at a loss of what else to do now it’s getting harder to help her to sleep.
Any thoughts/tips? Or do I just accept she’s a tricky little thing but delightful in all other ways?!
