Again another sleep post as my 6 month just doesn't sleep. I don't know what to do he's been awake since 10:30 after falling asleep at 7:45 every night is different even tho I try to stick to same schedule regarding bedtime routine. He's not crying he's just lying here awake shouting and grunting on and off and just moaning. I've tried nappy changes a feed which he drank about 5oz so maybe was a wee bit hungry I just feel like crying it's something night after night and I'm getting so fed up with it. I feel bad for getting frustrated but I'm seriously at my whits end with it now

Hey @FTM1333 sorry you’re having a bad time!

This might sound silly, but if he’s not distressed or crying, can you not get some sleep? He might drop off in the meantime? I don’t have any other suggestions I’m afraid, but could it maybe be gas related?

I’m up myself as currently trying to get 9 week old to use crib and not me to sleep on!

The Ferber Sleep Training book saved my sanity in two nights.

How is his sleep during the day? How many naps and how long for?

2 or 3 naps normally half an hour then an hour and then half an hour or so it just depends on what we are doing in the day x

How late would 3rd nap be if he had it?

Pollywoddles · 11/09/2023 05:17

2 hours during the day at that age would be the minimum so he could possibly be overtired. They can also have a sleep regression at 6 months.

Do you have any support? Your partner needs to step up here too and give you a break.

It’s so hard. My now 18 month old did eventually start sleeping better when we could finally switch to one nap but I’m still up twice a night. I hope your little one starts sleeping better soon.

Obviously I’m not a medical professional but could he be having a stomach ache - maybe allergic to something lactose etc - grunting and moaning sounds like discomfort to me.

The way I view it if an adult was grunting , moaning and shouting aAt night we would think they were in pain so maybe bubs is too? Worth a trip to the gp maybe?

5.5m old here stick to your guns. We've had terrible sleep patterns due to horrific reflux. Every feed would take minimum an hour more like 2 to make him comfortable. The reflux has eased but he still only has 2 naps in the day, it should really be 3.

Keep going with your schedule, 90min max wake windows. 5oz sounds a little low, mine is on 7oz 6 times a day and all bottles drained.

Sleep pressure is a real thing, keep stimulated and exercise, plenty of tummy time. Good luck it's hard in the trenches!

He's normally on 4 7oz bottles some times one 8 at bedtime doesn't normally have anything in the night HV said that was enough for his age.
He loves his solids to which maybe contributes to only 4 bottle.

I really don't know then, I'm sorry hun. We were at the peads consultant last week (lots & lots of issues) and he asked how much he was drinking, was that why he had such awful reflux was he drinking too much, calculated it and said it was fine
